Obituary of Carrie Mae Howell
CARRIE MAE LEWIS HOWELL
Virginian Pilot - 04-07-2005
SUFFOLK - Carrie Mae Howell, 82, of the 7100 block of South Quay Road,
passed away April 6, 2005, in her home. She was the widow of Richard E.
Howell, Jr., and was the daughter of the late Livie and Mary Virginia
Lewis.
A member of Holland Baptist Church, she was a homemaker and helped her
husband with Howell's Seafood. Her spunky spirit will be missed and will
continue to keep us going. Never wanting to wait for someone to do
anything for her, we thank her for her stubbornness and love. She will
be sadly missed by her loving daughter, Rachel V. Howell of Suffolk and
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Sidney F. Harrell
Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Shannon Joyner and
Elder James M. Jenkins. Burial will follow in Holland Cemetery. Friends
may join the family at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for
visitation and at the residence at other times.
Rachel would like to thank all of the people who helped take care of her
mother at home where she wanted to spend her last days; Betty Whitted,
Home Healthcar Aid, who made Mama laugh and made her "eat", Serena
Benwell, her next door neighbor who came out of nowhere to help us;
Michelle Carson, nurse, who helped tremendously at home; David Fink,
friend and learned to be nurse who also helped tremendously at home and
in the hospital and never left my mother's side and took the last ride
and final ride home with her; and William Lawrence, lifetime friend who
also has been with us on doctor visits and in the home helping us. You
all helped me accomplish the impossible. God put you all in place at the
right time and Mama and I thank you all. A special thanks to Dr. Preston
Judson for his understanding and support to make it happen.
Memorial contributions may be made Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O.
Box 1515, Suffolk, VA 23439.
