Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Richard Francis Lowdermilk, 72, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, died Aug. 10, 2002, in Richmond. Born in Mount Savage, Md., he was a son of the late Loroy and Edith Carter Lowdermilk and served with the U.S. Navy for 31 years. 

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Shirley Ann Zembower Lowdermilk; a daughter, Penny Kay Barry and her husband Tris J. Barry Sr. of Leesburg, Va.; a son, Richard Dean Lowdermilk and his wife Gayle of Courtland; a sister, Mary D. Shuck of Kissimmee, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Daniel Lowdermilk, T.J. and Jamie Barry. 

A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin. Burial, with military honors, will be in Capron Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and suggests that memorials be made to Capron Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 128, Capron, VA 23829.
