Mr. Marks, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, was the son of the late E.L. "Bill" Jr. and Bessie Kitchen Marks. He was the founder and co-owner of Marks Construction Company. He was a Navy veteran and a member and senior warden of St. Luke's Episocpal Church, Courtland. Survivors include his wife, Jean Scott Marks; one son, Edward Lewis Marks IV and his wife, Annette Pickett Marks of Franklin; his stepmother, Jessie Marks of Courtland; two sisters, Shirley M. McBroom of Fredericksburg and Patsy M. Cox of Franklin; one brother, James Franklin Marks of Courtland; two grandchildren, Martha Francis Marks and Edward Lewis Marks V; mother-in-law, Maud R. Scott of Franklin; sister-in-law, Ann S. Perkins of Kalamazoo, Mich.; brother-in-law, E.M. "Buck" Scott Jr. of Norfolk. Mr. Marks was predeceased by one sister, Anne M. Nixon. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Courtland, by the Rev. James W. Browder. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
