Mrs. Mears was a native of Bertie County, N.C. and was the widow of Henry Thomas Mears. She was a member of Sweet Haven Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Gertrude M. Collins of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two sons, James M. Mears of Holland, Va. and Robert H. Mears of Courtland, Va.; one sister, Sadie L. Conner of South Hill; one brother, William R. Conner of Franklin; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. William Hawkins. Burial will be at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8 to 9 p.m. today.
