Obituary of Joseph Maddrey Minton JOSEPH M. MINTON Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - November 7, 1997 Joseph Maddrey Minton, 88, died Nov. 4, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Minton was born in Halifax County, N.C., a son of the late Henry and Maude Minton. He was a 1931 graduate of Wake Forest University where in 1930 he was inducted into the Golden Bough, was a Navy veteran of World War II and had retired from the Woodlands Division of Union Camp Corp. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and former member of Cypress Cove Country Club and the Franklin Lion's Club. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mildred McCoy Minton; two sons, Joseph M. Minton Jr. and his wife, Dr. Nancy Spates, of East Lansing, Mich., Frederick McCoy Minton and his wife, Sandy, of Richmond; two granddaughters, Sarah Caroline Minton and Madeleine Joan Minton; a sister, Callie L. Cooper; and a brother, Elwood Leake. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lois Howell, Betty Thompson and Elizabeth Adkins and two brothers, James Leake and Clyde Leake. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Roy DeBrand. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Baptist Church or the Southampton Memorial Hospice, 102 Fairview Drive, Suite E, Franklin, Va. 23851.
