Obituary of Lulian Parker "Mott" Modlin Jr. LULIAN PARKER MODLIN "MOTT" THE TIDEWATER NEW - 09-21-1998 BOYKINS - L.P. "Mott" Modlin, Jr., 75, a lifelong resident of Boykins, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in a Richmond hospital. Born in Boykins on Sept. 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Lulian Parker and Nettie Sadler Modlin. "Mott" was a charter member of the Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the Knight, Ricks, Rideout and Vick American Legion Post No. 276, the Meherrin Valley Hunt Club and Boykins Baptist Church. He had retired as owner of White Hardware Company. L.P. Is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred Rideout Modlin; his children, Diane M. Burgess and her husband J.T. of Sedley, Jimmy Modlin and wife, Carolyn, of Boykins and Rhonda J. Modlin of Boykins; four grandchildren, TAra Kea, Tamara Burgess, Dee Modlin and Jim Modlin; two sisters, Bess M. Payne of Chesapeake and Margaret M. Spruill of Franklin. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Modlin, and his sister, Evelyn M. Winstead. A funeral will be conducted at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, at 2 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Benjamin Thomas, the Rev. Phil Motley and the Rev. David Johnson, Burial with military rites will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
