VIRGINIA BEACH - Alice Morris Gwaltney, 107, formerly of Waverly died
Aug. 21 at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Gwaltney was born in Greensville County, and was the daughter of
the late James Edward and Margaret Coker Morris, and the widow of Herman
Lee Gwaltney. She attended Emporia Public Schools and was a graduate of
Smith-Deal Massey Business School.

She worked as a legal secretary in Waverly and also as a secretary for
the Virginia Department of Transportation. She was a member of the
Waverly United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret J. Cramer of Virginia Beach;
two grandsons, Roger Cramer and wife Julia of Crofton, Md., and Ross
Cramer and wife Mary jane of Virginia Beach; two great-grandsons,
Christopher Cramer of Laurel, Md., and Joshua Cramer of Virginia Beach;
several nieces and nephews; including J.B. Johnson Jr. of Sedley; and
great nieces and nephews; including Edward Johnson of Newsoms, Ben
Johnson of Suffolk, Stephen Johnson of North Carolina and Glenn Johnson
of South Carolina.

Funeral services were held at Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield, Aug.
24 with the Rev. Connie Gibbs officiating. Burial followed in Waverly
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
