He was a native of Isle of Wight County and a retired automobile salesman affiliated with Kello Motor Company. Mr. Nelms was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Survivors include a daughter, Tracey N. Lindsay and her husband, Darrin, of Carrollton; a son, Sean Hunter Nelms and his wife, Sandy, of Andrews Air Force Base; a brother, Joseph Eugene Nelms Jr. of Smithfield; and a granddaughter, Holly Christine Nelms. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Smithfield Assembly of God Church by the Rev. Donald Watkins. Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park , Franklin. The family suggests contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Peninsula Chapter, in memory of Joseph Hunter Nelms, P.O.
