Obituary of JOSEPH RANDOLPH NEWSOME JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 31, 1996 Joseph Randolph Newsome Jr., 65, of East Street, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. Mr. Newsome was a native of Branchville and the son of the late Joseph Randolph Newsome Sr. and Annie Munford Newsome. A self-employed farmer, he was president of the Southampton Farm Supply, Branchville, a member of the Boykins Baptist Church, the Branchville Ruritan Club, Boykins Masonic Lodge 287, and American Legion Post 276. He was a Korean War veteran and was also a charter member of the Meet and Eat Club in Boykins. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Bettie E. Newsome; two sons, Dr. Matthew W. Robertson and his wife, Frances, of Birmingham, Ala., Todd Eastwood Newsome of Boykins; four sisters, Anise N. Williams of Richmond, Helen N. Nurney of Capron, Josie N. Gay of Seaboard, Erma N. Scott and her husband, George, of Boykins; two adored grandchildren, William Newsome Robertson and Brooke Randolph Robertson; and several nieces and nephews. The Rev. Ben Thomas will conduct graveside services at 3 p.m. today in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends at the home after the service.
