Obituary of Stephen Louis Papa STEPHEN LOUIS PAPA Daily Press (Newport News, VA) - April 28, 2003 NEWPORT NEWS - Mr. Stephen Louis Papa was born in Detroit, Mich., on Nov. 16, 1922. He was born again in Newport News, Va., in 1976, at the Peninsula Rescue Mission. "Papa," as most people called him, retired in November 2002 after 29 years of service to man and the Lord at the Mission. He went to be with the Lord April 27, 2003, after a protracted illness. He served as cook, kitchen manager, and Mission manager in those years. His smile and pleasant voice were a fixture, seen or heard by many who came to the Mission door or called on the phone. Papa served as a wonderful example of what God can do in the life of a man who trusts Him. Many men were influenced for the Lord by Papa's life and testimony. Many will miss him, especially his "family" at the Rescue Mission. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Riverside Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Windsor, Va. Memorial donations may be made to Peninsula Rescue Mission, Inc., P.O.
