Peden Jr. SEDLEY - Archer ``Bean'' Whitley Peden Jr., 60, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Suffolk after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife of 41 years, Annie Wells Peden, and his family were at his side. ``Bean'' was born in Southampton County to Archer W. Peden and the late Lucille Ritter Peden. A loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, he loved the outdoors and fishing. He and Annie planted a bountiful garden, freely sharing the harvest with family and friends. He retired from Masonite Inc. after 35 years and was a member of Millfield Baptist Church. He is also survived by his children, John W. Peden and wife, Tammy, of Sedley, Amelia P. Covington and friend, Patty Chandler, of Wakefield, James A. Peden and wife, Sandy, of Boykins; grandchildren, Cortney Peden, John W. Peden Jr., Roy Travis Covington Jr., James A. Peden Jr., and Jeffrey E. Peden; sister, Della Mae P. Clark of Ivor; brothers, Willard L. Peden and wife, Iris, Roger Dean Peden and wife, Betty, all of Smithfield; nieces, Tracey, Sharon, Kristin, Shirley Mae and Patricia; and great-niece, Kaitlyn Leigh Peden. He was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Lee Peden, and a sister, Lennie Lee Peden. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. Steve McGlamery officiating. Burial will be in Millfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Ivor. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
