BRANCHVILLE - Shirley Phelps Casper, 70, a resident of Branchville, Va., died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, in Leigh Memorial Hospital, Norfolk. Born June 12, 1931, in Bertie County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Sutton Phelps and Florence Britt Phelps. She was a member of the Crossroads Community Church, Branchville, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Branchville Volunteer Fire Department. She was the widow of Johnnie ''Jake'' Ward Casper. 
She is survived by a daughter, Paula Mae Whitehead of Como, N.C.; a son, Gary Paul Casper of Rich Square, N.C.; two sisters, Katie Ward of Charleston, S.C., and Nell Casper of Norfolk; and two grandchildren. 
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, Va., by the Rev. Dr. Chreston Holloman and the Rev. Bob Atkins. Memorial donations may be made to the church. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is handling arrangements.
