Obituary of Robert Francis Phillips ROBERT FRANCIS PHILLIPS Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - September 9, 1997 Robert F. ``Bob'' Phillips, 76, of 213 Hunterdale Road, died Sept. 8, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Phillips was born May 12, 1921, in Richmond, son of the late Clark A. and Virginia C. Phillips. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1938 and attended the University of Richmond. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945 and was the retired vice president and general manager of S.W. Rawls Inc. Active in many civic organizations, he was past president of the Franklin Rotary Club, Hunterdale Ruritan Club, Franklin Community Fund, the Tidewater Chapter Virginia Oil Institute, Southside Oil Association and former member of the board of directors of the Virginia Oil Institute. For 10 years he was country chairman of the National Infantile Paralysis Foundation. He was a former choir director of the Colosse Baptist Church and the High Street United Methodist Church, treasurer of the Franklin Little Theater, and was a member of the Commonwealth Chorus, the Suffolk chapter of S.P.E.B.Q.S.A. (barber shop singing), Fred's S.R.A.I.L. Club and the Cypress Cove Country Club. He was a member and treasurer of High Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edith Allman Phillips; two daughters, Bruce P. Saunders and her husband, Randy, of Franklin and Anita P. Parker and her husband, Jeff, of Kannapolis, N.C.; two sons, Robert F. Phillips Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Camden, S.C. and Paul C. Phillips and his wife, Laurie of Franklin; a sister, Margaret P. Turner of Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Edward Johnson. Memorials may be made to the High Street United Methodist Church, 301 W.
