Obituary of James D. Pope JAMES D. POPE Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 14, 1997 James D. ``Punk'' Pope, 75, died April 13, 1997 in Richmond. Born in Southampton County, he was the son of the late Percy Ashby and Ruth Scaborough Pope. Mr. Pope was a retired farmer and horse breeder and a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Capron United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Capron Ruritan Club. Mr. Pope is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jones Pope; a daughter, Katie P. Edwards and her husband Tye of Capron; three sons, James D. ``Pete'' Pope and his wife Kay, Benjamin Gregory Pope and his wife Kitty Lou, all of Capron, and Charles ``Buddy'' Pope and his wife Marie of Casselberry, Fla.; two sisters, Ethel ``Dick'' P. Francis of Capron and Thelma P. Roberts of Shawboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, Jim, Joe, Jennifer, Jessica, Josh and Bland; and a great-grandchild, Kendal. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Capron Cemetery by the Rev. Lowell Stovall. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and at other times, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Pope Jr. Memorials may be made to the Capron Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
