Obituary of Carroll Douglas Porter CARROLL DOUGLAS PORTER Virginian Pilot 12-23-2004 NEWSOMS - Carroll Douglas Porter, 68, died Dec. 21, 2004, at Sentara Leigh Hospital. A lifelong resident of Newsoms, he was a son of the late George Washington and Estelle Ellis Porter. He began working in 1952 with Southampton Tractor Company and continued with the company when it became Lee Tractor Company in 1993 until he retired in 2003. Carroll was a member of the Newsoms Pullers Association, MIllswamp Longbeard Chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation and, since 1953, a member of the Newsoms Hunt Club. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church. Survivors include his sister, Juliette Porter Liverman of Murfreesboro, N.C.; four nieces; and five nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lillie Porter Johnson and a brother John Robert Porter. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 Friday in Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Faison officiating. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to Newsoms Baptist Church, P.O.
