Janie W. Porter died June 18, 1991, in a nursing home. 

Mrs. Porter, a native of Hertford County, N.C., was the widow of W. Marvin Porter. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and High Street United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include a daughter, Martha P. Williams of Colonial Heights; a son, M. Gilbert Porter of Franklin; three brothers, George R. Whitley of Statesville, Robert H. Whitley of Portsmouth and F. Irving Whitley of Franklin; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in High Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. John A. Siegle. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
