Obituary of VIRGIE BRYANT PORTER The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, November 21, 1995 Virgie Bryant Porter, 89, formerly of the Sunbeam area of Southampton County, died Nov. 19, 1995, in Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Richmond. A native of Boykins, she was the daughter of the late W.C. and Annquella Bailey Bryant. She was the widow of Simpson Edgar Porter. She was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College and was a former teacher. She was a member of the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Porter was a past worthy matron of the Franklin Chapter 128 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Porter Carden of Cumberland; three grandsons, Richard P. Carden II of Mechanicsville, Va., W. David Carden and John E. Carden of Cumberland; a granddaughter, Susan Carden Lipscomb of Cumberland; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Southampton Memorial Park , where Eastern Star rites will be accorded. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home prior to the funeral, and suggests memorials be made to the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church or Franklin Chapter 128 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
