Christelle Price Powell English, 79, a resident of Ivor, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, in Suffolk.
A native of Elberon, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jack Dudley and Matie Virginia Pittman Price. The widow of G.C. Powell Jr. and William H. English, she was an active member of Ivor United Methodist Church, Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth P. Saunders and husband, Billy, of Carrsville, Va., Virginia P. Britt and husband, Russell, of Ivor; a son, George C. Powell III and wife, Donna, of Waverly; seven grandchildren, Christy F. Lynch of Suffolk, Nancy F. Mewborn of Rockmart, Ga., John W. Saunders of Carrsville, Joanne F. Joyner of Zuni, Ricky Powell of Wakefield, Michael Powell of Colonial Heights, Cheryl Simmers of Waverly; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith P. Campbell of Gastonia, N.C., Mary P. Barna and Charlotte Price of Dendron; two sisters-in-law, Mary N. Powell of Ivor and Mildred L. Price of Wakefield; a brother-in-law, Vernon Jennings of Waverly; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Charlie Marks Gwaltney of Waverly. She was the sister of the late Mildred P. Burns, Ruby P. Jennings, Gordon C. Price and Wilson Price.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. C. Randolph Duncan and the Rev. Steve Bradshaw. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the residence, 8267 Gale Ave., Ivor. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad or Ivor United Methodist Church.
