Obituary of Junius Waverly Pulley Jr. JUNIUS WAVERLY PULLEY JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, December 27, 1998 Junius Waverly Pulley Jr., 79, died Dec. 25, 1998. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was born March 20, 1919, in Courtland , a son of the late Junius Waverly and Mayab Owens Pulley. He owned and operated The Waverly Shop on Highway 58 between Courtland and Franklin for many years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish and, in recent years, bred and trained hunting dogs as a hobby. Mr. Pulley was a member of Courtland Masonic Lodge No. 85 AF & AM and the Manry Hunt Club, where he was the treasurer for many years. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Shirley Walthall Pulley; two daughters, Pamela S. Katz and her husband, Dr. Jonas B. Katz, and Janice P. Lester and her husband, David B. Lester Sr., all of Richmond; two sons, J. Waverly Pulley III and his wife, Patricia G. Pulley, of Richmond, and Glenn W. Pulley and his wife, Pamela F. Pulley, of Danville; two sisters, Frances P. Moore and Anne P. Prince, both of Courtland ; two brothers, F. Bert Pulley and C. Graham Pulley, both of Courtland ; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Courtland Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Speight officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Courtland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 439, Courtland , Va. 23837 or to a favorite charity.
