Obituary of FRANKLIN R. RAIFORD The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - December 29, 1994 Franklin Rodman ``Monk'' Raiford, 73, of Sedley Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1994. Mr. Raiford was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was the son of the late Lloyd M. and Helen Joyner Raiford. He was a merchant marine during World War II and was the retired owner of Raiford's Used Cars and was vice president and timber cruiser for Bar Logging Co. He was a member of Burdette Baptist Church. Mr. Raiford, an avid deer hunter, was the former president of Burdette Hunt Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Polly) Scott Raiford; three sons, Franklin R. Raiford Jr. of Franklin, Joseph B. Raiford of Suffolk and Howard E. (Butch) Raiford of Franklin; four sisters, Lucille R. Wellons of College Park, Md., Hazel R. Rhodes of Windsor, Margaret R. Shenberger of Salem and Earnestine R. Watkins of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Joseph Edmond Raiford of Norfolk and Merritt L. Raiford of Courtland; two step grandchildren, Jenny and Amy Campbell. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 1994 at Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Joseph E. Talley and the Rev. Charles Shenberger.
