Edith Thornton Ray died Oct. 9, 1993, in her home. 

Mrs. Ray, a native of Fayetteville, N.C., resided in Lynchburg, Va., during her childhood and was a former resident of Franklin, Va. She was the daughter of the late Walter F. and Elva B. Thornton and was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church in Franklin. 

Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Ray; a daughter, Sarah Vaughan Boyden of Atherton, Calif.; a brother, Robert Thornton of Lynchburg; and three grandchildren. 

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, by Dr. Ira D. Hudgins. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at 216 Meadow Lane in Franklin. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is handling arrangements.
