Obituary of Rupert Gerald "Sport" Roberts RUPERT G. ROBERTS Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 30, 1998 Rupert Gerald ``Sport'' Roberts, 85, died July 28, 1998, in Chesapeake General Hospital. He was a son of the late George W. and Penelope Radcliff Roberts and the widower of Marie Bray Roberts. Sport retired from Union Camp Corp. in 1978 as a shift electrician after 32 years of service. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 151 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rites, Khedive Shrine Temple, and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was a former merchant marine and a member of Franklin Baptist Church. Sport is survived by two sons, Gerald B. Roberts and Barry L. Roberts, both of Franklin; his mother-in-law, Minnie H. Nelms of Sycamore, Va.; three grandchildren, Donna Harrison of Chesapeake, Dana Roberts and Burt Roberts, both of Franklin; and one great-grandchild, Brittany Harrison. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Roy DeBrand. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. Friday in Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N.
