Obituary of Lydia Darden Harrell Rose LYDIA DARDEN HARRELL ROSE Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 30, 1997 Lydia Harrell Rose, 86, of the 31300 block of Harvest Drive, died Dec. 29, 1997, at her residence. A native of Suffolk, she was a homemaker and the widow of John Edward Rose. During the early 1930's, she was a teacher at Carrsville School. For many years she was an active leader in PTA at the local and state levels, and was Tidewater District PTA president. As a member of Beaver Dam Church, her extensive involvement included Sunday School teacher and Royal Ambassador Leader. She also worked in the Women's Missionary Union where she held the office of president and associational superintendent. She was the chairman of the Memorial Gifts Committee for many years. Mrs. Rose served on the Board of Trustees for the Walter Cecil Rawls Library for six years. She was also a member of the Holland Women's Club, the Carrsville Homemakers Club and, for 50 years, she was a member of Sinai Chapter No. 18 of the Order of the Eastern Star. The daughter of the late Raleigh Clarke Harrell and Adina Baker Harrell, she was predeceased by two sons, Captain John Beverley Rose and Robert Edward Rose; and three brothers, Beverley T. Harrell, R. Clarke Harrell and David E. Harrell. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Lydia Joanne Rose Willis and husband, Wayne, of Smithfield, and Mary Rose Campbell of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Billie Fay Barrett Rose of Carrsville, Va.; grandchildren, Robert Barrett Rose of Yorktown, Adina Baker Rose of Carrsville, Captain John B. Willis of Charlottesville, Captain Robert A. Willis of Illesheim, Germany, Robert C. Campbell of Marietta, Ga. and A. Scott Campbell, also of Marietta; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Madeleine Willis, and Michaela Rose. A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Peerey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the Harrell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
