Obituary of Evelyn Bolling Pretlow Rutledge EVELYN BOLLING PRETLOW RUTLEDGE The Tidewater News - 03-23-2003 MIAMI, FLA. - Evelyn Pretlow Rutledge, native of Franklin, died on Feb.3 at East Ridge Retirement Village in Miami. She was 98. Mrs. Rutledge lived all her unmarried life at "The Town House" on South High Street, which was built by her father, Robert Ashton Pretlow of Pretlow Peanut Co. She attended Sweet Briar College. She married Reginald E. Rutledge of Asheville, N.C., and moved with him to Coral Gables, Fla., in the early 1930s with the residents of that Miami suburb were still called "pioneers."" Her husband, vice-president of Siebels, Bruce & Co., was a leading insurance man in South Florida. Mrs. Rutledge was a leader in community life and held many positions in local organizations, being the first treasurer of the Museum of Science and Space Transit when it opened in 1949, the president of the Junior league of Miami in 1941, and a prominent leader of Women's activities in the Episcopal Diocese of South Florida, as it was then called. She was recently honored at the 75th anniversary of the Miami Junior League. She is survived by her son Reginald E. Rutledge, Jr. of Rye Brook, N.Y., two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
