Mary Elizabeth Saunders Munford, 72, died July 22, 2002, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Allen and Otelia Gay Saunders. She was a greeter at the Franklin Wal-Mart and was a 29-year employee of Rose's in Franklin. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Crawford Munford Jr.; a stepdaughter, Jo-An Noles of Hertford County, N.C.; a stepson, Crawford Munford III of Bladen County, N.C.; six sisters, Francis S. Edwards, Rebecca S. Hedgepeth and Willie S. Clark, all of Windsor, Charlotte M. Woodie of Portsmouth, Nancy S. Hall and Brenda S. Marshall, both of Franklin; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, A.J. and Johnnie Saunders, predeceased her.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Greg Kitts and the Rev. Willis Switzer. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorials be made to the Black Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 34163 Vicksville Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
