Obituary of Ida E. Sawyer IDA E. JOHNSON Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 27, 2003 Ida E. Sawyer, 91, passed away Dec. 24, 2003, in a Virginia Beach hospital. Mrs. Sawyer was a native of Isle of Wight County. She was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Mattie B. Johnson and the widow of John L. Carr, who passed away in 1968 and Walter D. Sawyer, who passed away in 1986. She was a lifelong member of Colosse Baptist Church, Windsor, Va. For many years Mrs. Sawyer cared for children of working parents and kept in touch with them and their families as they grew into adulthood. She is survived by her daughter, Colleen C. Credle and husband John of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, J. Michael Credle of Bellevue, Idaho and Tracy L. Credle and wife Kelley of Virginia Beach; three great-grandchildren, Anson and Neven Credle of Bellevue and Jakelynn Credle of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Joseph E. Johnson and wife Myrna of Virginia Beach and Keith Johnson and wife Pauline of Carrsville, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Horace Harrell of Suffolk, Mrs. W.D. Boykins of Newport News and Mrs. Eugene Gallup of Virginia Beach; and two nieces and four nephews. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, and other times at 569 Catalina Ave., Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or to a charity of ones choice.
