 Mr. Howard Clyde Simmons Jr., 74, died April 22, 1997. 
Mr. Simmons was owner of Simmons Enterprises and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Aulander. 
Survivors include his wife, Lona Story Simmons; his son, Charles Simmons, and his wife, Sharon, of Emporia, Va.; his daughter, Charlotte Gupton, and her husband, Eddie, of Winterville, N.C.; a granddaughter, Amy Simmons; two grandsons, Scott and Ryan Gupton; a sister, Shirley Bryant, and her husband, George, of Boykins, Va.; a niece, Olivia Claud of Capron, Va., and nephew, Frank Bryant of Boykins. 
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Jackson Funeral Home, Jackson, by the Rev. Brian Faison. Burial will follow in Boykins Cemetery. 
The family will receive friends at the Jackson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and other times at the home in Woodland. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Route 1, Box 39, Aulander, N.C. 27805.
