Hattie Simmons Bond, 92, retired Deputy Commissioner of Revenue of Southampton County, died Jan. 23, 2002. Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Augustus and Missie Frances Spain Simmons and the widow of Edward C. Bond. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Courtland United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for many years.
Survivors include two stepsons, Edward O. Bond and wife, Lynda, of Courtland and Carl A. Bond and wife, Cynthia, of Lynchburg; a sister, Bernice S. Gillette of Capron; two brothers, J. Kilby Simmons and Gus Simmons, both of Courtland ; step-grandchildren, Karen A. Bond of Richmond, Elizabeth B. Brinster of Chesapeake, Suzan B. Quesenberry of Richmond and Amy B. Herold of Herndon; five step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen S. Davis and a brother, Robert B. Simmons.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Kay Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery , Courtland . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and suggests that memorials be made to Courtland United Methodist Church Building Fund, 22416 Main St., Courtland , VA 23837 or one's favorite charity.
