Thornton Simpson, 78, died surrounded by his family at home in Gloucester County, Feb. 8, 2004. Born in Elizabeth City, N.C. April 15, 1925, he grew up in Chuckatuck. Thornton opened Severn Bookkeeping & Tax Consultants Inc. in Bena, Va. He was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Gloucester for more than 30 years. Thornton was a great friend and confidant to many. He will be missed by his wife, Mary Lou Haywood Simpson; his children, Trotman Simpson, Jr., Nathan Simpson, Amy Curtis and Gretchen Simpson Nelson; eight grandchildren; one brother and three sisters. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. A funeral will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Interment at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Oakland Christian Church Cemetery, Suffolk. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, P.O.
