Obituary of Vernon W. Slade VERNON W. SLADE Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, September 2, 2002 KILL DEVIL HILLS - Vernon W. Slade, 55, died Aug. 31, 2002 at Chesapeake General Hospital. Born Oct. 21, 1946 in Suffolk, he was the son of the late William Alvie Slade and the grandson of the late Alvah C. and Geta W. Byrd. Mr. Slade was a Vietnam veteran, a member of Great Fork Baptist Church and a long time resident of Kill Devil Hills. Survivors include his mother, Gilma Byrd Slade of Suffolk; two sons; his twin sister, LaVerne S. and brother-in-law, Irving C. White of Suffolk; a sister, Regina S. Holt and a brother-in-law, Charlie Holt of Richmond; a niece and a nephew; many cousins; an aunt, Cathleen Horton of Chesapeake; and a long time friend, Rozella Carter of Kill Devil Hills. A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Great Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathan C. Judy officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
