JOSEPH "DOC" WASHINGTON

   BOYKINS - Joseph "Doc" Washington, 94, died Dec. 24 in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
   Mr. Washington was a son of the late William E. and Josephine Turner Washington. He was born lived and worked his entire life in Southampton. He started as a barber, was a long-time farmer, and was former owner and operator of Meherrin Packing Co. He was a former member of Boykins Ruritan Club, a longtime member of Boykins Hunt Club, and a member of Boykins Baptist Church.
   Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lila Mae Smith Washington, two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Tosto of Boykins and Martha Ann Wright and husband Bobby of Chesapeake; one son, Joseph A. "Al" Washington of Richmond; one brother, James E. Washington of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Joseph Hoal, Deborah Cossey, Sarah Wright, Alice Washington and Brian Washington; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Hoal, Travis Cossey and Katherine Cossey.
   A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Dec. 27, in Beechwood Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence, 32238 East St., Boykins. Memorials may be made to Boykins Baptist Church, 32057 Main St., Boykins, Va. 23827. Wright Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
