Born in Windsor , N.C., she was the daughter of Joseph Allen and Marion Grey Smithwick. She was a 1977 graduate of Southampton High School and received an associates degree from Tidewater Community College. Kathy was a medical records technician at the UVA Medical Center and formerly worked at Southampton Memorial Hospital and Obici Hospital. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and attended Albemarle Baptist Church in Charlottesville. Surviving besides her parents is a brother, Jerry Allen Smithwick and wife Darlene Harrell Smithwick; and a nephew, Ronnie Allen Smithwick, all of Franklin. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. A. Richard Childress officiating.
