Virginia Brittingham Stewart, 84, of Clay Street, died Sept. 29, 1992, in a hospital. 

Mrs. Stewart was born in Portsmouth and was a graduate of Goucher College, Baltimore. She was a secretary for Stewart & Stewart Attorneys. She was a former social worker in Norfolk and was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Frederick C. Stewart; a son, F. Bruce Stewart of Williamsburg and Franklin; and three grandchildren. 

The graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas Lee. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Ruth Camp Campbell Memorial Library Building Fund, P.O. Box 156, Franklin, Va. 23851.
