Obituary of Catherine Armstrong Stirling CATHERINE ARMSTRONG STIRLING Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - November 11, 2001 Catherine Armstrong Stirling, 97, widow of Yates Stirling III, died Nov. 9, 2001, in the the East Pavilion of Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born on April 2, 1904, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Cornelia A. Armstrong. A native and longtime resident of Norfolk, Mrs. Stirling was a former member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, a former member of the Charity Circle of the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church where she served as treasurer of the Episcopal Church Women for many years. Tiny,'' as she was known by family and friends, is survived by a son, Yates Stirling IV and his wife, Linda, of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Suzanne S. Duffey and her husband, the Rev. Ben R. Duffey, of Franklin; four grandchildren, Scott Stirling, Heather Stirling, Frederick M. Quayle Jr. and Catherine S. Quayle; three stepgrandchildren, Dr. Benjamin M. Duffey, Peter S. Duffey, and Mary D. Kroeson. She was predeceased by a sister, Blanche A. Joynes; and two brothers, Herman and Leon Armstrong. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Poplar Spring Cemetery , conducted by the Rev. Ben R. Duffey and the Rev. Ed Pickup.
