Obituary of WALTER F. STORY JR. The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - May 18, 1994 Walter Franklin Story Jr., 73, a business and civic leader, died May 16, 1994. He was a native of Suffolk. Mr. Story was a graduate of Suffolk High School and attended the University of Richmond. For 50 years, he was the president and chief executive officer of National Screen Co. He formerly served as the director of the Virginia Manufacturers Association, the Southern Hardware Association, and the Eastern Hardware Association. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army in World War II. Mr. Story was a member, former lay leader and chairman of the administration board of Main Street United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Suffolk German Club, Cedar Point Country Club and the Suffolk Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as past president and local fund drive chairman for the Suffolk Community Chest, the American Cancer Society and the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Active in Boy Scouting for many years, he served in a variety of capacities, including past president and member of the executive board of the Old Dominion Area Council. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Awards and was recognized as a 60-year veteran registered Boy Scout. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Royall Story; a daughter, Ann Story Powell; and two grandchildren, Jennie Royall Powell and Charles Cutchin Powell Jr., all of Suffolk. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Main Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Alan Felumlee. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. The family will receive friends at the home of Ann Powell, 501 N. Broad St. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad or the Walter F.
