SUFFOLK Bessie Estelle Stella Rowell, 76, formerly of Wilroy Road, died April 24, 2002, at Largo Medical Center, Largo, Fla.
A native of Plymouth, N.C., she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Terry Sr. and Bessie Aingsley Terry. She was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Wool Weber and a brother, John Thomas Terry, Jr. She retired as a reporter of The Suffolk News-Herald and she owned and operated a wedding portrait business. She was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church.
The widow of Malcolm Mack Rowell, she is survived by a daughter, Lynnette Phelps Jepperson of Safety Harbor, Fla.; sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas Lawrence Phelps of Louisa, Va., and Daniel T. and Sherri Phelps of Suffolk; grandchildren, Ronald W. Smith, Jr., Jarad Phelps, Nikolle S. Reyes, Brooke Phelps, Jonathan Phelps, Ryan Phelps, Cindy Phelps, Stephanie Phelps, Brittany Phelps, Nichole Phelps, Caroline Beale, Janet Smith, Steve Cushman, Diane Phelps; and a sister, Elinor Black of Sherills Ford, N.C.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilroy Baptist Church by the Rev. Carter Dey with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join family Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Harrell & Hill Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her son, Daniel, 174 River Point Drive, Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 902 Pennsylvania Ave., Suffolk, VA 23434
