Funeral Home overseeing arrangements. ––– Transcript ––– FLOYD HUDNALL CHRISTOPHER The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, February 19, 1995 Floyd Hudnall Christopher, 93, died Sat. Feb. 18, 1995, in Hillhaven Retirement Center in Suffolk. A native of Northumberland Co., Va., he was the son of the late Mary Corbin Hudnall and Thomas William Christopher. He was a graduate of the College of William and Mary where he received his bachelor's degree in 1925 and a master's degree in 1940. He was named Principal of Chuckatuck High School in 1925 where he served in this capacity for 25 years. In 1947, he was named Principal of Franklin School with some 2200 students. He remained principal of Franklin High School for 17 years when he became Franklin's first Assistant Superintendent of Schools. On June 30, 1967, he retired after a 42-year career in education. On January 12, 1986, the Franklin City Council and School Board honored Christopher in a special ceremony for his 42 years of dedication to education. A monument constructed from the bricks of the old high school which was being demolished was erected at the new Franklin High School. The monument bears the old school bell and a plaque inscribed to Christopher. One of his former students, former Governor Mills E. Godwin, spoke at the dedication ceremony. He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Eberwine Ames of Franklin, who now resides at the Hillhaven Retirement Center in Suffolk, Virginia; two sons, F. Hudnall Christopher, Jr. of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and W. Ames Christopher of Raleigh, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Ashley Penn Christopher of Charlottesville, Virginia, and David Ames Christopher of Evanston, Illinois. A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM in Cedar Hill Cemetery. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
