Obituary of John Norfleet Ward Jr. JOHN NORFLEET WARD JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, May 17, 1999 John Norfleet Ward Jr., 75, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 15, 1999. Born in Portsmouth on March 28, 1924, he was the son of the late John Norfleet Ward Sr. and Ida Forehand Ward. An Army veteran of World War II, he served time in Bad Neustadt, Germany, and his military service included that of a sharpshooter, gun runner and military policeman. He served his country faithfully in the Army and National Guard for 34 years. He worked with the Department of Corrections in Capron faithfully for 24 years as a food service manager. John was much loved and admired by all who knew him. Survivors include his beloved wife of 19 years, Marger P. Ward; his mother-in-law, Fannie Buckner; four sons, Al Ward and his wife, Anne, of Franklin, Jackie Paschall of Chesapeake, Johnny Ward of Courtland and Michael Ward and his wife, Karen, of Courtland; three daughters, LouAnn Paschall of Suffolk, Renae Powers and her husband, Dennis, of Courtland and Lisa Williams and her husband, Robert, of Chesapeake; 15 grandchildren, Penny Ward, Joel Ward, Tara Ward, Michelle and Bill Holdren, J'son Paschall, Christina Fowler, Wesley Fowler, Dustin Powers, Amber Ward, Jonathan Ward, Becky Ward, Matthew Ward, Ashley Ward and Alex Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Devon and Michael Ward. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Kenneth Williams and the Rev. Thomas Speight. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
