Thomas Franklin Whitfield, 81, of Smiths Ferry Road, a retired salesman, died June 22, 1991, in a hospital. 

Mr. Whitfield, a native of Southampton County, retired from Heilig-Myers Furniture Co. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and the Franklin Masonic Lodge. 

Survivors include his wife, Jean Colvin Whitfield; a daughter, Betty Kelley Longerbeam of Richmond; and a sister, Louise W. Story of Newsoms. 

The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. M. Reginald Warren. Friends may join the family at the residence. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

Memorial donations may be made to the church's building fund, Route 3, Box 127, Franklin, Va. 23851.

Thomas Franklin Whitfield, 81, of Smiths Ferry Road, a retired salesman, died June 22, 1991, in a hospital.
