Mr. Whitfield, a native of Southampton County, retired from Heilig-Myers Furniture Co. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and the Franklin Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Jean Colvin Whitfield; a daughter, Betty Kelley Longerbeam of Richmond; and a sister, Louise W. Story of Newsoms.
