Obituary of DANIEL ELEY WHITLEY Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - November 11, 1996 Daniel Eley Whitley, 79, of the first block of Church St., died Nov. 10, 1996. He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed. A native of Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Richard Lee and Virginia Eley Whitley. He worked as a welder for Newport News Shipyard for over 40 years. He was a member of Windsor Christian Church and served as secretary of the Sunday School for over 20 years. He was a charter member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and a former Boy Scout leader. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bradshaw Whitley; two daughters, Penny Kay West of Chuckatuck and Lucy Whitley Cranfield of Portsmouth; two sons, Larry Whitley of Chesapeake and Ronald Whitley of Windsor; three sisters, Dorothy Bradshaw of Suffolk, Nancy Hundley of Smithfield and Gwendolyn Luter of Windsor; one brother, Martin Earl Whitley of Bradenton, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Windsor Christian Church by the Rev. Basil Ballard. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery . The family will receive friends in R.W. Baker & Co.
