Emily W. Brock 

SUFFOLK - Emily Whitley Brock, 103, a resident of the Masonic Home of Virginia since Oct. 1986, died Nov. 21, 2002 in Richmond. 

Born Jan. 18, 1899 in Nansemond County near Norfolk Lake, she was the daughter of the late John Jacob and Virginia Frances Turner Whitley. She was the widow of Edgar John Brock, whom she married on July 11, 1925. Mrs. Brock attended King's Fork Elementary School at Providence Church, graduated from Suffolk High School, attended Farmville State Teachers College and later taught in a one-room school. 

She was a member of Windsor Congregational Christian Church and for many years worked beside her husband on their farm in Isle of Wight County. She also served as state treasurer for the World War I Women's Auxiliary. 

Survivors include her daughters, Marion J. Beasley of Yorktown and Marie B. Haas and husband Conrad of Suffolk; a son, Edgar John Brock Jr. and wife Diane of Southport, N.C.; a beloved nephew, Jack Whitley of Gloucester; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a beloved first cousin, Anna Goode Turner of Suffolk. 

A funeral will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Windsor Congregational Christian Church by the Rev. Basil Ballard with burial in Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Company Funeral Home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA 23223.
