Obituary of CHARLES L. WINSTEAD The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - April 1, 1994 Charles Louis Winstead, 74, of North Drive, died Wednesday, March 30, 1994, in Chesapeake General Hospital. Mr. Winstead was a native of Nash County, N.C. and was the son of the late Norman Clyde and Elizabeth Robards Winstead. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired as a machinist from the Maintenance Dept. of Union Camp Corp. Mr. Winstead was a member of the Woodmen of the World, American Legion, and Bronco Rod and Gun Club. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Modlin Winstead; two daughters, Rebecca Winstead Royster of Martinsville, Va. and Rita Winstead Schafer of Courtland, Va.; two sons, J.C. Winstead of New Castle, Va., and Lt. Col. Charles L. Winstead Jr. (USAF) of Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Daphine W. Bradshaw of Franklin, Nell W. Murphy of Mechanicsville, Va. and Ruby W. Murphy of Franklin; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 1994, in the Franklin Baptist Church by Dr. Ira D. Hudgins. The burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Chris and Rita Schafer, 18387 Darden Scout Road, Courtland, Va., from 7 to 9 p.m. today and suggests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the Alzheimers Association, Hampton Roads Chapter 20, The Koger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
