Obituary of EVELYN M. WINSTEAD The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - December 13, 1995 Evelyn Modlin Winstead, 77, of 100 Fairview Drive, died Dec. 11, 1995. Mrs. Winstead was a native of Boykins, Va., and was the daughter of the late Lullian Parker and Nettie Sadler Modlin. She was the widow of Charles L. Winstead. She was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Rita W. Schaefer of Courtland, Rebecca W. Royster of Martinsville, Va.; two sons, J.C. Winstead of New Castle, Va., and Col. Charles L. Winstead Jr. of Langley Airforce Base, Hampton; two sisters, Margaret Spruill of Como, N.C., and Bess Payne of Portsmouth; a brother, L.P. Modlin Jr. of Boykins. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Roy DeBrand and the Rev. Dr. Ira Hudgins. The burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Chris and Rita Schaefer, 18387 Darden Scout Road, Courtland, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and suggests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the Alzheimers Association, Hampton Roads Chapter 20, The Koger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
