Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, March 5, 1999 James Dudley Woodard Jr., 85, of Main Street, died March 4, 1999, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Woodard was a retired merchant and a lifelong member of Courtland United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Courtland Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nette Davis Woodard; a daughter, Diane E. Woodard of Columbia, N.C.; a son, J. Dudley Woodard III and his wife, Tammy, of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; two granddaughters, Diane Elise Marks and Joanna Elizabeth Marks, both of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Corrine N. Woodard; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ida Prince and James D. Woodard Sr.; and a brother, Dr. Prince B. Woodard. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Robert J. Parks Jr. and the Rev. James W. Browder III officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Courtland UMC or the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad.
