 Mattie Worrell Gray, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at East Pavilion, Franklin, where she had been a resident since 1980. 
Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Morris and Susie Aston Worrell. She was a member of Boykins Baptist Church and had formerly worked at Boykins Narrow Fabrics. She was the widow of Ashby Russell Gray. 
She is survived by a daughter, Doris Gray Branch and her husband, Wayne, of Ivor; two granddaughters, Carole B. Rountree and her husband, Keith, of Newsoms and Candy B. Edwards and her husband, Doug, of Franklin; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice W. Ellis of Newsoms and Frances W. DeBerry of Conway, N.C.; a foster daughter, Barbara Worrell Wall of Petersburg; two foster grandchildren, Cheryl Atkins and Bobby Pope, both of Capron; and several nieces and nephews. 
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, by the Rev. Jim Browder. The family will be at the residence of Wayne and Doris Branch, 14307 Appleton Road, Ivor. Memorials may be made to Boykins Baptist Church. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is handling arrangements.
