ETTA WRIGHT DUCK

   SUFFOLK  Etta Wright Duck, 78, a civic volunteer, died Dec. 12, 1999.
   Born Dec. 4, 1921, in Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Gertie P. Pierce and Pervy Travis Wright Sr.  Mrs. Duke was a member of First Baptist Church, teacher of the Friendship Sunday School Class in Adult Seven, and a former hostess of the church for 35 years. She served as WMU director of the Blackwater association for eight years.
   Mrs. Duck was a volunteer at Obici Hospital and actively volunteered for many civic organizations including Meals on Wheels, Care Fair, American Cancer Society, American Lung Asssociation, Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, American Heart Association, the Suffolk Womens Club and PTA Council. For 27 years, she volunteered with the American Red Cross. She served on the board of directors for the Obici Auxiliary and as hospitality chairman, planned receptions for the Tree of Lights, nurses graduation and the Auxiliarys Annual Golf Tournament. She was honored by being asked to light the 1999 Tree of Lights at Obici.
   Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Irving Daughtrey Duck; daughters, Kathleen Patricia Murphy of Altanta and Nancy Christine Moon of Lilburn, Ga.; and granddaughters, Kathleen Patricia Sumpter, Nancy Lynn Duck and Robin Elizabeth Davis.
   A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson and the Rev. George Mullinax. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home. Memorial donatioina may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, to the Hospice West Unit of Obici Hospital or to First Baptist Church.
