Hersel Beard Obituary Hersel Beard Portsmouth - Hersel Beard, 91, passed away on September 6, 2017. He grew up in Norfolk and was a graduate of Granby High School and the College of William & Mary. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and was stationed in Calcutta, India. His return to Norfolk completed his around the world tour of duty. For over thirty years, he was a salesman for Edwards-Councilor Co., Inc. in Virginia Beach. Hersel served as a Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School in the Presbyterian Church. He was currently a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Hersel was predeceased by his parents, Hersel and Carrie Beard and sister, Joyce B. Rowell (Sonny). Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty; daughters, Betsy and Jane; brother, Billy (Mary Ann); nieces, Betty Lee (Bill), Debbie; nephews, Bobby (Sue), Billy (Mindy), Mark, Tom, Babs, and Mike (JoAnn); along with great nieces and nephews. Hersel and Betty were happily married for 64 years. Hersel was a loving and devoted husband, father, and brother. His family meant everything to him.
