H. Brinkley Dies in County Prominent Cypress citizen succumbs to pneumonia early today; funeral Sunday afternoon. William Henry Brinkley, prominent Nansemond farmer and one of the county's oldest citizens, died at his home near Cypress Chapel this morning (6 January 1933) at 2:45 o’clock, succumbing to an attack of pneumonia. Mr. Brinkley was 82 years old. Born in 1850, the son of Daniel and Martha Brinkley, William Henry Brinkley spent a boyhood in a land devastated by civil war. Growing to manhood as the period of reconstruction began, he had a large share in restoring order out of chaos in his community and became one of its responsible citizens. In 1881, he married Miss Sarah Florence Milteer, who died seven months ago. Surviving Mr. Brinkley are four daughters: Mrs. P. T. Howell and Mrs. J. W. King of Suffolk; Miss Helen Brinkley and Mrs. Frank E. Parker of Cypress Chapel; two sons, Cyrus Brinkley and Clifton Brinkley of Cypress Chapel; a brother, John D. Brinkley of Oxford, North Carolina; and fifteen grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday [7 January 1933] at Cypress Chapel Christian Church, of which he was a deacon and a lifelong member. The service will be in charge of Rev. R. E. Brittle, pastor of the church, assisted by Revs. I. W., John H. S. Hardcastle, and J. M. Roberts. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
