FRANKLIN — Robert Joseph Brown Sr., 65, died 26 September at Southampton Memorial Hospital. 

A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Earl Russell and Little Collier Brown. He was a retired mechanic with the city of Franklin and a member of Styramore Baptist Church. He was a former Boy Scout counselor with Troop 28 and a former member of Franklin Fire and Rescue Squad. 

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jeane Glover Brown, two sons, Robert J. Brown Jr., and wife Linda of Edenton, N.C., Eldridge Lewis Brown and wife Renee of Franklin; one brother, Earl Russell Brown Jr., of Norfolk; three sisters, Ruth B. Baker of Ellwood City Pa., Helen B. Joores of Suffolk and Betty B. Garrison of Charlottesville, five grandchildren, Eldridge Lewis Brown Jr., Edward Lauren Brown, Justin Michael Brown, all of Franklin, Robert J. Brown III and Christina Ashley Brown of Edenton, four special children, Lynn Wade Rollins, of Franklin, Mike Wade of Raleigh, N.C., Val Gray of Virginia Beach, Ashby Gray of Henderson, N.C.; a host of nieces and nephews, and two sons, Allison and Chase. 

Mr. Brown was preceded by a sister, Juanita Cross, and a brother, W. Lewis "Doc" Brown. 

A graveside service was conducted 29 September in Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. M. Hardie officiating.
