Born and raised in Winton, NC, he was a son of the late Clayton Henry Burgess and Stella Hill Wall Burgess. He was also predeceased by a sister, Delia Losey. Henry was a graduate of Winton High School and served in the US Air Force. He was a machine technician for Franklin Equipment Company. Henry was a member of Clarksbury Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Kaye Burgess; a daughter, Michelle Kaye Kello (Lee) of Bridgewater; a son, James Kevin Burgess (Patrick Evans) of Akron, OH; three sisters, Dorothy Beshara of Newton, NC, Kim York (Ken) of Shallotte, NC, and Stella Boone of Cary, NC; two brothers, Clayton Burgess of Harrellsville, NC, and Billy Wayne Burgess (Lynn) of Sedley; three grandsons, Richard John and Layton Kello; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral service will be held at 1PM Thursday, February 15, 2024 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery in Boykins. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and suggests that memorial donations be made to CHDK or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
